History of Cairo


When this city founded in 969 A.D no knows at that time that Cairo will be oldest and popular city in the world at once time. A city of hundreds of minarets is also famous 2nd name. Today you can see   a modern city is still on foot print of 4th century civilization. The oldest thing in this oldest city is fortress of Babylon built by Romans in 4th century at the bank of Nile.  Another part of a Cairo is Coptic Cairo consist oldest Coptic Church known as the hanging church just beside the Babylon fortress. In 640 Arabs captured the Egypt and make fustat capital of there kingdom. That campaign was led by 2nd caliph of Muslims Omar ibn e khattab who ordered to his trusted military general amar bin al aas to conquer the Egypt. Later in 9th century most important military general of fatmid rule Gawhar al-siqlli grab the fustat (Egypt) from Tunisia. And after that he built near Nile river a city called al-mansurriah (or al qahira) later famous as Cairo. He also builds a mosque named al azhar mosque. And now a days this Is 3rd oldest and largest university in the world. City suffered also Black Death (plague) in 13th and 15th century and causes 200000 deaths in the city. Ottoman and mamluk also rules the city later.

         Cairo has also collection of oldest and beautiful mosques reflecting the Muslim culture. Like Al Hakim   mosque, aqmar mosque, juyushi mosque, lulua mosque, imam hussain mosque, zaynab mosque, sayyeda nafeesa mosque, and Muhammad ali basha mosque.
